Benefits of using Resveratrol Supplements

So you are not so sure about resveratrol and its virtues? Worry not, for we are here to do it for you!

Don’t be confused by the name for it is not some herb tonic untested and unfiltered by any authority whatsoever. It is not the sort of miracle potion you read about in fantasy novels and not the kind of hoax that you watch on late-night TV ads. The truth is that resveratrol is one of those supplements that are growing in popularity at an exponential rate.

So maybe you are confused about whether resveratrol is, in fact, the real deal or maybe just a falsely marketed product. If this is indeed the case, this article is just for you. After all, this is your health and well-being that we are talking about. You have a right to know what the product you are about to buy would do for your body.

You may have heard of polyphenols. This is the name of a group of chemicals that are fairly commonly found in one’s diet. Resveratrol belongs to the polyphenol group. Polyphenols are basically anti-oxidants which hunt for free-radicals in your body. Now, free radicals don’t mean funny people with even funnier ideas, but really just unstable molecules and ions that can harm your body.

Resveratrol is found in red wine thanks to the skin of grapes which are fermented while making the wine. Since red wine is fermented with grape skins for a longer time than white wine it, therefore, contains more resveratrol. Consuming food items such as grapes, blueberries and cranberries can also provide one with resveratrol which is healthy for the heart. One may also have red and purple grape juice as it is said to have a similar effect.

In an experiment conducted on mice, it was observed that when they were fed supplements of resveratrol, there were certain changes and improvements. Firstly, the aging process was slowed down and secondly the older mice had their motor skills improved. In fact, mice that were fed resveratrol along with a heavy diet actually put on less weight and performed better in exercise. These studies, therefore, concluded that resveratrol was boosting cellular activity which was then improving enzyme-level operations.

In conclusion, resveratrol can be consumed simply by eating peanuts and berries and grapes and while it is not a miracle cure to all your problems, it definitely has some merit. You may also consider taking supplements but the jury is still out on whether such supplements have any side effects or not. There have been reports that resveratrol counters estrogen production and thus it may concern some women.

Resveratrol is fast becoming a popular health-care supplement and this popularity will only rise further.
