Science Behind Deer Antler Velvet and IGF-1

As the name suggests, deer antler velvet is harvested from the antlers of deer, moose and elk. This is done when the animals are still growing because at that time, the antlers haven’t solidified and thus the velvet can be extracted without any harm to the animal. These antlers contain a variety of minerals such as magnesium and zinc. They are thus used in a number of supplements. The deer antler velvet extract is very popular in the world of fitness.

Prostaglandins are produced in the body and serve to regulate blood pressure, hormone growth, and cellular communication and muscle activity. Not just this, but it also helps with metabolism and fighting infections.

TONEPEAK Deer Antler Velvet Extract

Deer antler velvet has been used in china since ancient times. The effects of it depend on the animal it is extracted from as well as the diet of that particular animal. Traditionally, it has been used to treat infertility and hypertension. Other effects such as improved memory, alertness and libido, quicker healing and slowing down of the aging process have also been attributed to dear antler velvet extract.

The deer antler extract was used on Russian athletes and it resulted in massive boosts in their performance. The athletes had greater strength and stamina after using the extract.

Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Collagen are the three main items of interest that make deer antler velvet so popular. In fact, glucosamine is used to produce glycosaminoglycan which is found within the body.  Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) is found within the connective tissues. Glucosamine sulfates are used to treat osteoarthritis while collagen and chondroitin are found to treat arthritis. These particular components found within the velvet extract are thus said to have miraculous effect on the joints.

Furthermore, the antler velvet contains male and female hormones. Of particular importance is the IGF-1 which is made in the liver as a counter to growth hormones.

Human Growth Hormones (HGH) are produced in the brain and play a crucial role in one’s skeletal development. They peak during adolescence and during puberty, they determine the size of the bones as well as one’s height. HGH also regulates metabolism.

Since increase in these hormones leads to greater testosterone, we can naturally understand why the deer antlers are so effective in boosting sex drive.

While Deer Antler Velvet Extract is not a necessary nutrition, that does not mean that it is not beneficial and that no one needs it. It has no side-effects, or at least none have been discovered yet. However, it is still not understood as to how the extract would react when consumed with other supplements. Much more research is needed in that area. Also, some people have been discovered as allergic to the extract and thus that must also be kept in mind while consuming it.
